Preparing for Your Medicare Insurance Meeting

A Medicare meeting goes better when the details are on paper before you sit down. This three-page worksheet from LynnLeigh & Company helps you gather the information a Medicare agent will need, so your time together can focus on your options rather than on tracking down paperwork.

It begins by helping you identify where you are in the process: approaching 65, working past 65 with employer coverage, retiring, reviewing your current plan for next year, or working through a claim or coverage concern. A checklist then outlines what to bring, including your Medicare card and Part A and Part B effective dates, current plan materials, your Annual Notice of Change, other coverage details, and any recent bills, notices, or denials.

The second page is where the most valuable preparation happens. You’ll list every prescription with its dose, frequency, and pharmacy, along with the doctors, specialists, and hospitals you want to keep. Plans can differ significantly in the drugs and providers they cover, so these lists are worth completing carefully.

The final page helps you clarify what matters most to you, such as keeping specific providers, lower premiums, predictable out-of-pocket costs, travel flexibility, or added benefits. It also gives you space for your budget, expected care, and questions for the agent. Finally, it offers guidance on bringing a trusted helper, including a reminder that Medicare may require written permission to share your information, with special instructions for New York residents.

Here’s how we can help. Healthcare is one of the largest and least predictable expenses in retirement, and it belongs in your Big Picture Planning®. While we don’t recommend Medicare plans or insurers, we can help you understand how premiums and out-of-pocket costs fit into your retirement income and Later Money strategy. Download the worksheet, complete it before your appointment, and keep your finished copy secure.
